Kolaba fort

Kolaba Fort is a sea fort built by Shivaji Maharaj in 1652 in the Alibag Beach of the Arabian Sea. The fort has a height of 25 feet and is at a distance of only 2 km from the Alibag Beach shore. The area within the fort itself is dotted with historical artefacts and vestiges such as cannons and carvings of animals and birds on the fort walls. Old temple buildings are also present here. Although the mighty fort is in the middle of the sea, surrounded by water on all four sides. The opulent fort is now a popular tourist destination and the primary attraction of the idyllic town.

Beaches at Alibaug

Murud-Janjira Fort

Murud-Janjira is the local name for a fort situated on an island just off the coastal village of Murud, in the Raigad district of Maharashtra. The fort itself is around 4 kilometres away from the town and the walk is absolutely wonderful, especially during sunrise.

To reach the Murud-Janjira fort, one has to take small sail boats operated by villagers which in itself is a very unique experience. You can view it from a vantage point, soak in the first rays of light before taking the boat ride.
